Macro Monday - Autumn

Today was one of the first days of the year when I was definitely sure it was autumn. Firstly, the heating came on (all be it briefly) in the morning. I worn a jacket when I was out taking pictures – this is not always a blessing as it gives me more pockets to lose things in!

And finally, I had taken these pictures a few days earlier. Our Crab Apple tree does not bear useable fruit – but it’s a good marker of the turning of the year.

The Japanese Anemones are also at their best at this time of the year. I decided to avoid the perfect looking flowers – as I have a greater empathy with the slightly imperfect ones.

A little battered around the edges they may be, but they look like they may have a better story than the glamour puss perfection of the ones just out of shot.

Their colour and tendency to sway in even the slightest breeze makes them a bit of a challenge to shot.

You can find more macro shots (autumnal or not!) at Macro Monday.

You can find the latest post to my other blog by clicking on the Paying Ready Attention image on the RHS of the screen.

Enjoy the close ups.

  1. Stewart it's weird hearing that it's autumn, we get this season late Auguest or September... not in March, it's spring back home. So when winter hits here I'll get home in time for our summer, this works for me!

I love your shots, the flowers are so beautiful, they look perfect to me.

    Have a wonderful week, cheers.

  5. Those crab apples are beautiful...even if they aren't edible. This is one of the things I love about the blogging world...I can follow your autumn as you follow my spring...

  6. I like your take on flowers! And I love the pictures you took of the 'imperfect' ones. I bet it is hard to get used to Autumn in March, even after you've been there for years. (I have enough trouble remembering on a warm day in January that is is actually winter in most of the States.)

  7. Yes, the ones that are a bit battered around the edges DO have better stories to tell! And that goes for flowers too - LOL!

  15. Your ultra close-up of the anemone is very nice. It looks like you prevailed over conditions and got nice detail despite the white subject and movement. I enjoy flowers that move in the breeze in my garden ... until I try to photograph them. I was just commenting on that irony as I was trying to get my own Macro Monday shot. Just a few days ago I ordered fall anemones. Maybe I'll have a few blooms too when autumn comes to me in six months.
