Macro Monday - Green Bottle

Although there is a distinct autumnal feel in the air, Australia’s most annoying summer wildlife is still out and about.

This is a Green Bottle – probably Lucilia sericata – but given that you have to start counting hairs on legs to be sure of such things this is just a guess based on probability. This type of Green Bottle is very (and I mean very!) common.

There are also two ants in the picture – but I have absolutely no idea at all what sort they are!

You can find more macro shots at Macro Monday.

You can find the latest post to my other blog by clicking on the Paying Ready Attention image on the RHS of the screen.

Enjoy the close ups!

  1. You sure do have the world of patience to capture bugs this small, interesting looking bug though.

  2. At least I can recognise the sweet alyssum that your insects are on.
Although one of our dearest friends is an ant expert, I'm just glad that I can tell a bull-ant from a nasty bity hopper ant. Wish I could help you with identification.

  4. One of the great things about Seattle is that we have very few flies!!! They don't like our weather, I guess! Have a great week, Stewart!

  5. It is frustrating that good weather brings bad insects, isn't it?

  6. Thanks for the book recommendation! I'll track it down in the library.
I can imagine that fly must be a nuisance. Ours haven't emerged from hibernation yet - including the dreaded Scottish midge.

  7. Your "green bottle" looks like an insect you don't want to "tangle with. Pretty floweres though. Have a nice week. Mickie :)

  9. Nice shot That insect doesn't look familiar to me. You probably have many insects living with you in Australia.
