Up North

The demands of Christmas and some stinking hot weather have rather clips my photographic wings in the last few weeks.  As a result I have dived back into the archives……

These are a couple of images for around Housesteads - which is the most complete Roman fort in England.  Housesteads was a fort of Hadrian's Wall, and even through the place is now set up for tourists with all the mod-cons it is hard to imagine what is must have been like to be garrisoned there.  Summer adds an easy edge to the views, but winter must have been bleak.

At some date I may post a few images of the fort, but for today I will go with something a little more pastoral; classic Northern English landscape - sheep, drystone walls, a small, long-tended landscape.

You do not have to be a mind reader to work out that I miss places like this.

  6. These scenes just scream peace and tranquillity at me. Much as I love London I have to escape to the country every now and again.

  22. Oh lovely memories! Perhaps when you get as old as I am you can spend summers there again. You would be a reverse snowbird. (People who live in Arizona used to call themselves that when they would spend summers on the Oregon coast, instead of the opposite way Oregonians do it.)
