If you build it, they will come

I spent last week away from home, taking an Easter break down on the Bellarine Peninsula, a couple of hours from Melbourne.  We go there pretty often, but this time we stayed in a different location to usual.  (How dare somebody rent out the house we normally have instead of us!)

We stayed near an area called Curlewis, which, not that long ago, was basically all agricultural land.  Thats clearly not the case any more.

I found this empty road, which is called Hinterland Avenue (I'm not making this up!) rather strange and photogenic all at the same time.

I used these pictures for my weekly 52Frames project - with the theme being Negative Space.

Normal service will resume soon!

  1. Is that a sidewalk by the side of the road in your last photo? It seems a strange place for one as the area looks very quiet. Perhaps they are planning to put in a residential development. Interesting series of photos.

  2. Yes, no doubt if you come back in years time it will be full of houses, unfortunately. So much good farm land is going into developments.

  4. Burbs in the making, soon the whole country will be carved up. In the sixty seven years I have spent in Australia, I have seen the best agricultural land covered by roads and houses.

  5. Doesn"t take long for places to build up does it? When I first saw this area, it was nothing more than a country road and now we have six lane highways.

  6. Hello, empty spaces no more. It reminds me of the words of song "pave paradise to put up a parking lot." Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!

  7. Great example of negative space in more ways than one. Won't be vacant for long.

  12. I never really understood the concept of negative space, and if you looked at any of my recent cluttered posts, you would know that for sure! Hope you enjoyed (are enjoying?) the getaway!
