A bit rushed this week - as some of you may know I am in India on a work trip - so things are a bit hectic! And I thought I had set a WBW post up for this week - only to find I was wrong!
Indian birds and pictures to follow soon!
These birds are House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) taking a dust bath in a car park in New Zealand. Given that they seem to have excavated little holes in the ground, it seems to a popular location for a bath. The dust also seems to have given the birds a little more colour than normal!
As ever, to link up with WBW click on the blue button below.

Hmm .. those look like what we call English or House sparrow. Nuisance birds. I bet it was funny to watch their bathing techniques.
That one sparrow ought to have the cleanest head in the bird kingdom. They really are quite amusing to watch. Thanks as always for hosting, most especially while you are away and not only away but working .
What a sweet bird! I'm looking forward to your Indian birds!
Looking forward to seeing some of the birds from India. Have a safe trip.
Great shots of a somewhat ordinary behavior..I guess Sparrows look the same the world over...Happy Valentines Day..
Colorful for sure..Have a safe trip...
Hello, great captures of the sparrows taking their dust baths. Thanks for hosting.
Happy Valentine's Day, enjoy your new week ahead!
We also have a lot of those English House Sparrows. At first I could not tell what they were doing! I never thought of them having a bath! In our area the house sparrows have taken over a lot of the indigenous birds areas and are quite aggressive. I think someone just brought two or three birds over and let them loose here years ago.
fun shots! :)
He's really going at it. Birds and their dirt baths. I'll look forward to seeing you're birding adventures in India!
House Sparrows have been declining over here, but we have a healthy population round us. Great fun to watch the family interactions. Hope you get some birding time during your work trip.
Oh, how darling, Stewart!!! I've tried so hard to get something like this!!...:)JP
Hello Stewart, enjoy your travels :D)
I love your photos of the little house sparrows. Looking like it's really enjoying the dust/gravel bath!
I've been a bit lax with linking up - but will get a'clicking away real soon.
Cheers to you !
What a cute little fluff-ball! (or maybe dust-ball).
Fantastic photos Stewart.
Hello Stewart! Great series of the sparrows!
The sweetie pie . . . he needs to find a backyard with a nice birdbath
It does seem to have brought out the rusty dusty colors! Very cute! Enjoy your week!
I though the purpose of bathing was to remove the dust (dirt). She seems a bit confused, though I guess if you have no other choice, it might be the thing to do. They are cute even if they are considered nuisance birds. Hope you are getting a little R&R in with your work trip. There must be many wonderful places to go in India ... and birds, needless to say. Enjoy and safe travels, Stewart.

Such a dirty bird! :-) Just teasing. Great shots of him. Wish I'd had birds to join in this week, but alas...Maybe soon. Have an amazing trip to India! How fortunate you are to get to go. And, know I will keep at it with my blog despite the issues. There may be something wrong with my computer, so I am holding off starting a new blog right now. Have a great week!
