Wild Bird Wednesday 238 - Taking a bath

A bit rushed this week - as some of you may know I am in India on a work trip - so things are a bit hectic!  And I thought I had set a WBW post up for this week - only to find I was wrong!

Indian birds and pictures to follow soon!

These birds are House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) taking a dust bath in a car park in New Zealand.  Given that they seem to have excavated little holes in the ground, it seems to a popular location for a bath.  The dust also seems to have given the birds a little more colour than normal!

As ever, to link up with WBW click on the blue button below.

  1. Hmm .. those look like what we call English or House sparrow. Nuisance birds. I bet it was funny to watch their bathing techniques.

  16. I though the purpose of bathing was to remove the dust (dirt). She seems a bit confused, though I guess if you have no other choice, it might be the thing to do. They are cute even if they are considered nuisance birds. Hope you are getting a little R&R in with your work trip. There must be many wonderful places to go in India ... and birds, needless to say. Enjoy and safe travels, Stewart.

  23. Such a dirty bird! :-) Just teasing. Great shots of him. Wish I'd had birds to join in this week, but alas...Maybe soon. Have an amazing trip to India! How fortunate you are to get to go. And, know I will keep at it with my blog despite the issues. There may be something wrong with my computer, so I am holding off starting a new blog right now. Have a great week! Look forward to the Indian birds.
