Wild Bird Wednesday 301 - Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

More pictures from my trip to the Grampians in Eastern Victoria rather than Scotland!

These are Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), which are a wide spread Australian Cockatoo.  At about 50cm they they are pretty large when seen close by.  These birds are noisy and clearly intelligent, and can do a bit of damage as they seem to like eating housing materials!

Somebody must have spilt some muesli on the fence in the past, as the birds often came to visit at breakfast time.

I have to say they were great early morning company.

They are such cheeky chappies; have made friends with many over the years. Then again, I had steel, not wooden soffits... YAM xx

  4. One of your less colourful parrots there Stewart? Having said that their crest is rather lovely and very striking. Anything is better than our now expanding Ring-neck population.

  5. We see these occasionally as pets here in the US. You are right, they are smart and are quite the talkers if you spend the time teaching them. Beautiful shots, Stewart ... It is hard to imagine them out in the wild. So we close on our new house on the 18th, then we will start moving what we can move while a builder makes some changes we have asked for ... I suspect the actual move will be in early June. If I disappear for a short period, don't be surprised. This is truly a pain ... looking forward to the end that is not in sight yet :)
