These birds are male Superb Fairy Wrens. They were feeding in the grass and flowers around our cottage when we were on holiday. They would attack their own reflections in the windows of the house and on the cars windscreen. One bird actually landed on the car within seconds of us pulling up to the cottage.
That’s a really high degree of territoriality!
You can find more birds from around the world at
World Bird Wednesday.
You can also see the most recent post on my other blog by clicking the Paying Ready Attention picture on the RHS of the screen.
Enjoy the birds.
Lovely captures Stewart - these really are splendid birds, so captivating (and hard to capture because of their rapid movements, so you've done well!).
ReplyDeleteOh the bird looks so adorable, they like to mirror themselves on the glass window, how cute. I like the bluish color of the bird. It's Melbourne Cup there, did your horse win? hehe
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment and visit to my blog...

ReplyDeleteA new bird for me and what a cracker. Nicely photographed.
ReplyDeleteWonderful bird Stewart, so sprightly. Apparently a real clown too! But that blue, unworldly!
ReplyDeleteThey are such perky little guys. In our mountain residence they quite viciously attack my side mirrors and dining room windows.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty little thing.
ReplyDeletePavarotti indeed! Paying Ready Attention is no loose description of your focus on detail. Still, the silliness of spell check occasionally cracks me up. Can't you see Luciano bringing forth his tenor with a spectacular fire burning in the background?
ReplyDeleteBut yes, you have saved me from further embarrassment, I did mean paparazzi. That's what a public school education and a night of debauchery will do for your mind! At least I got the first letter right.
Thank you Stewart!
Great shots of a beautiful bird!
ReplyDeleteWish I could see them here!
Precious little birds, beautiful colouration.
ReplyDeletehm, can you send me a couple of these? I would love to have them in my neighburhood. :)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful little bird and fine photos to look at. And of course the species is quite unknown to me :), again I learned something new, thanks!
ReplyDeleteSuch stunningly marked birds -- really cool to see!
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute! Love these shots :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of these little spunky birds Stewart! I have seen several different breeds of birds engage in this behavior during breeding season. Even my beloved Western Bluebirds have parked themselves on the car mirror to fight off the intruder.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos, Stewart! I've never seen this kind of wren before.
ReplyDeleteThat IS territorial -- they are beautiful birds. we're on the road -- back to catch up w/ both blogs when I have a chance.
