Somewhat predictably these birds are from Oman - and they are House Crows - Corvus splendens. They are about 40 cm long and they are pretty common wherever they occur. On both early morning and evening strolls along the beach they were my constant companions.
As with many of the birds I saw in Oman this was a lifer.
There may be a delay in my replies this week due to end of school year musical events, ballet rehearsals and all that kind of thing. Oh, and Christmas is approaching as well!

ReplyDeleteCorvids indeed are fun to watch. I get 4 or 5 species over the garden each day. In windy conditions it gets even better with the aerial displays.

ReplyDeleteCrows in my neighbourhood are jet black so what a surprise to see that some are coloured differently. :)
I do LOVE crows and feel that they are under appreciated - as are Robins here in the US :)

Great photos of the crows. I know they are clever but I don't feel happy with them at present. The other day there was a lot of noise going on in the tree next door and I saw the "peewees" very excited and upset while a big crow sat calmly in the top of the tree with a small pink baby bird hanging out of its beak.

ReplyDeleteI tend to associate crows with being more urban creatures here - rather than seeing them at the water's edge. The ones in my garden look pretty sinister - although are probably more intelligent than some politicians...
ReplyDeleteI think it's the same species I saw in India Stewart. there they really are house crows! You're dead right about the politicians too - many of them remind me of other four-legged animals with curly tails though.
