Multi-spotted Darner

While this post sounds like it could be about some form of knitting equipment - it is actually about a dragonfly.

This is a Multi-spotted darner - I took the image in Kinglake last weekend.  Not only do I like the picture, its another example of why I like the web.

I am an absolute beginner when it comes to these insects - but I was able to find help on the web!  Splendid.

Also know as Austroaeschna multipunctata is common enough in forest areas near creeks - which is where I found it.

More close up shots at Macro Monday 2 and I Heart Macro.

I am a very long way behind with comments at present - spent the weekend away with, mostly underwater, with my daughter!

  2. Nice one Stewart, it will be a while yet before we see any dragons, bitter cold at the mo.
    All the best Gordon.

  9. What a great shot, Stewart!! I usually have trouble saying "beautiful bug", but it is pretty and, like Tex, I like it against the wood grain! Have a great new week!

  10. I love the Darners ... they are so beautiful and big enough to be able to capture some of the detail. This is a great shot, Stewart. Our common Darner is a Green Darner and it is around my gardens all summer ... I also see them in the woods at the forest preserve. They are great insect eaters, especially mosquitos, so we are always happy to see them.

Under water with your daughter ... hmmmm, sounds interesting. I assume we will see some pictures soon, yes? You are such a good Dad!
