Preying Mantis

I found this preying mantis laying eggs on a brick fence just outside our house.

    I love insects and in our former garden used to find these alien-looking fellows and try to photograph their faces :D)

  21. Is she laying an eggsack? Or am I way off here.:-) Nice shots. Good to see you again Stewart. I had a rough year last year Stewart, and got away from blogging a lot at times. This year...new camera and better focus! (pun not intended :-) ) I'm sorry if I ignored you and so many others.

  22. I've never seen that before. When I see one of these, they way they turn their head towards you makes it look like they are thinking.

    I'm not thrilled about them since I found out that they kill and eat humming birds....

  23. She looks big... I have only seen a couple in my garden in 20 years. My DIL has an egg case in a jar, they are supposed to hatch out sometime. I guess they eat a lot of bad bugs, but do they also eat bees?
