This is a shingleback lizard - or to use the name I first knew it by, the Stumpy Tail lizard. Both names are good - its back does look like the shingles on a roof and it does have a stumpy tail.
This lizard was taking some spring sunshine on board when I found him (or her) and was remarkably tolerant as I stuck the lens of a camera up its nose!
There are many reptiles in Australia which which I would not be so bold!
You can find more shots of animals from around the world at Saturday Critters

ReplyDeleteGreat find and capture. Have a lovely wekkend
ReplyDeletewat gaaf om hem zo dicht te kunnen benaderen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome specimen and I agree an almost sweet looking little face ... not usual in lizards. Or at least our perception of them usually doesn't go that way. Very cool find ... was he close to your home and what more can you tell us about him/her? How big are they, what do they eat and are they only found in Australia? So that should keep you busy for a moment, yes? Hope you are having some warm and fuzzy family time as we are celebrating Thanksgiving here and it should be all about caring about others ... Be well, Stewart.

Cute shots although he does not look too happy in the shot with his/her mouth open.
ReplyDeleteI have a number of stumps and blue tongues living close to my house and have to be careful not to step on them in the dark.
What a neat looking lizard, it kind of looks like a rough backed lizard here.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting (and almost scary) looking critter!
