A Mammal for Friday - Grey Seals

Its strange how the calm of holidays dissipates so rapidly when you go back to work!  I love the sound of clashing deadlines!

These are Grey Seals basking it up on the rocks around the Farne Islands in the UK.  At this point, you may be asking 'has he not run out of pictures from that trip yet?' and the answer is a resounding 'No,  I have not!'

If you look closely you can see one of the seals in these pictures has a huge nose - thats the male.  The females are a little less nasal!

I may have to keep mining the archives while I am strapped to my desk!  SM

  7. In my part of the world, you would call that a big schnoz. A handsome one at that :) I can't imagine you being tied to a desk. It seems very out of character for you. I hope it will be a short stint and you can be out and about again soon. But in the meantime, I love that you are still sharing UK photos ... as I am still sharing Switzerland photos and don't feel any guilt. Our trips were well worth a long showing ... At least I think so:P Be well, Stewart ...

  13. Wow, I've never seen seals outside a zoo. They look like they are having a ball just lazing around, real holiday mode.

  15. Nice photos! Although they are somewhat ungainly on land, they sure are graceful in the water.

  18. I did not know that about the seals' noses!
We are planning a trip to the California Coast where a colony of elephant seals have come to spend their winters. Hopefully we catch them before they're gone. :)
