Light-blue Soldier Crab

These crab are a common sight on many sandy beaches in Australia - they are called Light-blue Soldier Crabs.

These were trundling about on the beach at Coles Bay, Tasmania.

Each crab is a couple of cm across so they are not in the toe stealing / wounding size!

You can find more macro shots at Macro Monday2 and I Heart Macro.  SM

  1. So that's what they are! I snapped them at The Basin in Ku-ring-gai Chase in Sydney last winter.
Nice shots of these tiny tackers.

  2. I like the blue on them. There were a lot of crabs at times on Cairns beach but they were much bigger and I think had no blue.

  7. Excellent crabs. Certainly beats the one of two we tend to see on our local beaches.

  24. I just love these sweet little crabs! The sand is glistening in the sun and they soldier on, making the beach look like it's moving, I am sure.
