What a difference a day makes

When we were in Tasmania during January, the weather decided to put on a bit of a show.  There is not much between Tasmania and Antarctica but water and wind - and in the correct proportion those two ancient elements produce a third, rain.  In abundance.

Over one night we had some rather heavy rain - and by coincidence I had taken a picture of this small waterfall the day before.  So, I made a second shot - not exactly from the same place, but close enough.

When you walk on the hills in Tasmania you always need a full set of weatherproof kit - these pictures show you why!

Day 2
As ever, these picture look better bigger!

  3. Ah... There's a place I'm familiar with. Pencil Pine Cascades. Great comparison shots. I have a similar comparative shots of the waterfall just down stream from there.

  19. Great pics. I've been to Australia 3 x but never to Tasmania. I didn't realize it rained a lot there.

  20. I am smiling at your description of Tasmania conditions as related to the Antarctic. And those flood waterfalls are great, in my need to assuage my need to see them i used to visit an area of our property which only have water/waterfalls during heavy rains. I even invested/lost my lens cap there. Stewart, can you visit my post? You might know the importance of the black beetles to the plants at the Black Mountains.

  21. It must rain there like it does here in Florida to make that much difference overnight. But no mountains here ergo no waterfalls. I miss them. Yours are beautiful.

  22. It is kind of like life, isn't it? One day all peaceful and calm, and then the next day chaos!
    Great photos, both of them.

  23. What a wild and fascinating place...just ocean and wind between it and Antarctica! You got a fascinating comparison. I'd hate to have a little farm downstream of this!
