However, over the weekend I managed two short visits to a local pond and found these Australasian Grebes out and about. I think these birds are more acclimated to humans than most grebes as the boardwalk by the pond is a popular venue for dog walkers and duck feeders.
So, I will let the picture speak what ever number of words they can.
Now it's your turn to click on the (probably) familiar blue button to link up with WBW
beautiful little things. love the fluffy butts on cute grebes.:)
ReplyDeleteVery nice - interesting to see how different they look from the grebes we have here.
ReplyDeleteHe's very handsome. I love the reflections with these Stewart.
ReplyDeleteQuite a handsome species. It is so true that birds can become so habituated to the human presence that they allow close approach. I find that birds such as the Limpkin and various herons in our local wetlands act very suspicious even at a distance, but seem to pay no attention to the crowds on the boardwalks of several popular preserves.
ReplyDeletePRETTY!!!
ReplyDeleteMy son's 43rd birthday is today.

ReplyDeleteNice photos. Really like the colors of both the subjects and the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteTerrific photos, Stewart! I particularly like the 4th one where the duck's beak looks long, with the reflection of the reed superimposed on the beak.
ReplyDeleteHave a Wonderful Day!
Peace :)
Beautiful little birds. Great captures, Stewart.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Stewart! (Now that it is over, so I guess it is happy belated..). A sweet grebe. I love seeing the kinds we have here.

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Stewart. Hope you had a great day yesterday. These are a wonderful series of shot of this Grebe. Sometimes I find difficult to photograph due to its often diving. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteLovely and Beautiful series...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of the Australasian Grebes.
ReplyDeletePerfect photographed Stewart.
Best regards, Irma
I know very little about birds other than I like to try and photograph them. Is a Grebe a duck? It is a pretty one anyway. The reflections are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOh, they're quite similar to the Little Grebe. Not sure on the size but certainly in their general appearance.
ReplyDeleteAustralasian Grebes look very interesting, thank you for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Stewart. Good grebe captures. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Grebes. Here they are just Black with a dab of white on them

It's a real beauty Stewart and your photos are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI Love Grebes; what a beauty you have there. I remember watching a nature film on Grebes and it was beautiful! Thanks for hosting and for your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteWe, in the US have a pie-billed grebe that is very similar to these, although not as colorful. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures.

ReplyDeleteWonderful series Stewart! I love the reflections of the grebes and reeds in the water.
ReplyDeleteSure !! Blame it on the cat..:)
ReplyDeleteDucks are among my favorite birds..Love their coloring or lack there of..Happy Birthday!! Hope you did something fun..
Grebes have to be some of the most beloved critters on any continent. I love our little pied billed grebes, too. Even as adults, they look like little ones.
ReplyDeleteThe grebes are handsome but can probably blend in.
ReplyDeleteI love the reflections in these pics. Very cute, I don't think I've seen a grebe before. Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoyed it. The birds here that hang around where people go are usually very relaxed as well.
ReplyDeleteAs you know Stewart your pictures could just as well be Little Grebe. The obvious difference to me is that you are able to take some great pictures of the Australasian Grebe whereas Little Grebes are very unapproachable. I must look up the actual differences.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos/birds, Stewart!
ReplyDeleteI love all Grebes, yet these are especially gorgeous in their colouration. Once again Happy Birthday~
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeletePerfection Stewart.
ReplyDeleteI did not know you could also link you post birds. UIK see beautiful stations in between.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Helma
I am sorry I have not been visiting much this week. It has been a crazy week for me as well. Was it your birthday? If it was, happy birthday Stewart. Those birds are beautiful. They didn't seem to mind your presence.
