This is the third of three Wild Bird Wednesday's that I need to organise before I head off for work related travel. So, although the familiar blue button will appear at the bottom of the page - the posts themselves will be rather briefer than normal. A full service WBW will be along next week!
White-faced Herons are just about the most common heron in my part of the world - if there is a statue like figure in the reeds, waiting for fish, chances are it's Egretta novaehollandie, the white-faced heron.
This rather fine specimen was basking in the sunshine at Walkerville, Victoria last year. And although he did turn his back on me, he was rather cooperative.
And now its your turn to join in - click on the blue button to link your blog to WBW - and while my visit may not be swift, I'll get to you in the end, although I hate to think how long some of you may have been waiting!
He is a beautiful Heron and posed well for you.
ReplyDeletehmmm...white face are new to me :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures Stewart!
ReplyDeletePhoto nr 2 what a lovley background you have there ,great photos ,nette
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me somewhat of our Tricolored Heron here in Florida.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty!! Herons are always fascinating and he gave you a wonderful photo op!
ReplyDeleteI have one upped you today. I have a heron with two legs. Ha!
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteLOVE that back shot!!! trust the travel is being productive... YAM xx
Nice photos of the heron, even if he did have his back turned.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a Green Heron that got a hold of a can of blue spray paint. Except for the coloring, they could be twins. The Green Heron is very common here and I don't believe we have a Blue Heron of your kind in our midst unless it is down on the southern coast somewhere. We do have a Little Blue Heron, but he looks like a miniature Great Blue Heron and not at all like your Blue Heron :)Are you getting this? So, whatever the case may be ... he is a beautiful bird and it looks to me like you got some awesome shots of him. Have a safe trip home, Stewart. See you for real next week ...
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
He's a handsome fellow!
ReplyDeleteDistinctive face and a handsome species.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the WF Heron. They are very common up this way also and we frequently see them in the same roost sites as the migratory shorebirds.
ReplyDeleteHerons are one of my favorite birds and that's a beauty! It's amazing just how many different species there are!
ReplyDeletesharp-looking one!
ReplyDeleteIt's a fine specimen indeed! I love his grey-blue color.

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trips. Thanks for hosting.
Have a Wonderful Day!

Nice-looking heron. They do make great statues! I suppose that's the secret to good fishing. Thanks for hosting, hope life returns to normal for you soon.
ReplyDeleteHello Stewart, The White-faced Heron is gorgeous. I would love to see this Heron in the wild.I think most herons are very patient and wait for the fish to come to them. Great captures, thanks for hosting. Have a happy week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI do wonder how many species of heron and egret there are in the world? A very successful family of birds. This one is very distinctive and attractive. A good poser too - nice shots Stewart.
