I have to say that the pictures don't really show what the weather was doing - it was blowing a gale and the sun was very bright - but the combination of fast moving birds, fast moving trees and a rapidly changing shade as the branches blew around was a bit of a challenge.
The last week has not been great for me - well under the weather, and well behind in all areas. I hope I have caught up.
So, here are the pictures.
Blogging is a strange game - you feel connected to people you have never met, and who you may not even recognise if they were sat on the bus next to you - this week I found out that two people who I blogged with have died. This brings on all kinds of emotions. The least we can do is stay in touch.

ReplyDeleteI had to look very hard at those first pictures. The lorikeets' green plumage blends in so well with the vegetation. Being distracted by birds? Well I never? Hope you didn't get into trouble like I might Stewart.

ReplyDeleteOne of the golf courses I've spent some time on...about the 12 tee I think, is surrounded my trees with a colony of green parrots. If you have to concentrate when you tee off, very hard there. :)

Gorgeous birds! Don't feel bad, I've been gone so long I almost forgot how to blog! We haven't been out much in recent months, and when we do get out, it's not for very long, or very far. We've both had colds and sinus infections too.

Very nice photos! The lorikeet seems to be eating the flowers, which resemble those of our introduced (and terribly invasive in south Florida) Melaleucas. Since they originated in Australia, they have no natural pests to control their spread. If those lorikeets are indeed limiting their reproduction by eating the flowers maybe we could use a few thousand (or millions) of those birds over here!

I enjoyed her posts, we were friends on FB and although I'd never met he I was shocked to hear of her tragic death. Please do tell Mr H I meant to say he's rangy and handsome! ReplyDeleteI'm very familiar with Rainbow Lorikeets, but this was the first time I have heard of or seen Musk Lorikeets. Thank you for sharing these pretty birds! I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your friends and that you have been under the weather! I have been fighting something off and on since New Year's myself so I sympathize!

ReplyDeleteLove the lorikeets. Yah, blogging has been a long strange trip. I've had strangers walk up to me and ask, "Are you Steve?". The most unusual incident was when I was walking between buildings at work, no camera gear, in my business casual cloths, woman who was a passenger in a car rolled down her window and shouted "I love your blog!".

Sorry you have been sick. I'm getting over something still myself. My hubby was in the hospital with pneumonia and RSV this past week and came home today. Lots of sickness all around the globe!

Yes, it's so hard to lose a blogger friend. They aren't truly people we KNOW and yet we feel such connections! You're right, it leaves an empty place when someone dies.

I have lost 3 blogging friends, since I started blogging, that I know of. Every one of them made me sad, though I am coming to terms with the one event with a certain probability - certainty.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with your sentiments on blogging friends. I too was greatly saddened about the loss that the blogging community has felt this week. We have not met but there is a great on-line connection with so many amongst us.
You have the most colorful birds over there! I would find it difficult to pay attention to tennis (or anything else, for that matter) knowing there were birds about! Did the gale-force winds affect the game? I can't imagine that was very comfortable spectating.
