By the fire

It's winter here - and by local standards it's been a cold start.  Which makes it a fine time to sit by the fire.

The first image is me, taking advantage of the fire at a wonderfully straight forward cottage we stayed at a few weeks ago.  The second image is of Freda, taking advantage of the fire in a slightly less straight forward house we stay in most of the time.

Both were pretty good fires - although the addition of a cat makes the second one even better.

  1. Once again we are poles apart. Looking at your photos of a roaring fire as I sit here trying to keep cool in temperatures in the 30s.

  2. Lovely fires and Freda has the right idea. In the renovations here at Vantage House we now have three fireplaces though the one in the dining room is not real flames - a photo loop I think. But it does look nice.

  3. So glad we are past the fire stage (for now) it makes so much dust apart from the cost of the firewood!! Cheers Diane

Unbelievably, we are hitting high twenties over here and the idea of a raging fire is far from thought! Doesn't mean the comfort in these images goes unappreciated though :-) YAM xx

  5. Nothing as nice as a wood-burning fire on a cold night!

  6. Like those shots of interiors. Especially the second one with the cat and the nice fire. Looks cozy indeed.

  7. Nice shots. It looks like you and the cat are ushering in Winter in just the right way by cosy fires.

  10. The fires look so cozy, but you are not helping .... we get confused about the seasons sometimes anyway, because it is often cooler during our Oregon summer than it is in Florida during our winter. Of course that’s why we’re there in January, because if we were here here in Oregon during that month I’d be doing just what Freda is doing, but not as gracefully.

  12. There is nothing like a warm fire...except, as you have said here, a warm fire with a pet in front of it!
