Wild Bird Wednesday 394 - Red-Backed Fairy-Wren

The Red-Backed Fairy-Wren (Malurus melanocephalus) is Australia's smallest Fairy-Wren.  I found this male lurking in the shadows of some vegetation outside of the Mamukala hide in Kakadu National Park last year.

He really did not want to be photographed!

This was a wonderful little bird - I just wish he had been a bit more cooperative!

I am very behind with comments and visits - I will endeavour to catch up!

  9. Eu não fico indiferente às suas fotografias.
São sempre de uma grande beleza.
O passarinho estava era um pouco tímido.
    Bons cliques.

Too bad about the shadow, but you met him, that's the most important thing.

  12. What a delightful little bird, Stewart. I suspect he gave you some difficulty in getting those images. Best wishes from UK, where we seem to be heading into a cooler spell again, with warnings of damagingly high winds over the coming weekend!

  13. Their coloring is very different from our Wrens..They still have that unmistakable tail..I wonder if they are as noisy?

  14. Neat little bird. This is a case where it's good that it turned its back to the camera.

  16. Stewart, this little Wren is adorable! I cannot help but notice the upright position of the tail, which is a trait of the wrens here. Is that common in the species?...:)jp
