Macro Monday - My front door.

The house we live in was built somewhere around 1915 - and one of the things that we like about it is that it has retained a number of its original features.

One that gives me pleasure every time I see it is the lead-light glass in the front door.  I've been meaning to take a picture of it for a while and motivation we high this weekend - so here it is.

One of the things I like about this type of glass is the way it changes colour depending on where the main light source is.  This image is taken inside looking out - so the glass looks bright.  But from outside it would look much more dull.  On a winters evening - when the hall light is on, but its dark outside you get the opposite effect.

So, here is my front door!

You can find more shots at Macro Monday.

Enjoy the close ups.

  1. I like the way the colours can be reflected on the wall or floor from these windows.

  5. Love that door.... your home sounds like a great one for raising a family in....

I like the larger image format on your blog...on this picture particularly, I am sure it shows the lovely patterns and texture of the glass much better than a smaller pic would have.

  6. What a lovely bit of glass work. Let's light in but not prying eyes.

Did you really build your house in 1915? Or was it built then by someone?

  14. How fortunate you are to have a house with interesting architectural details like this leaded glass doo. And I can just imagine the colors your are treated to, depending upon the in and out door light. Is this the original glass?

  15. Most certainly a work of art! I took a few leaded/stained glass classes several years ago. The only I left the class with was band aids on my fingers.

  16. The glass of your front door is so chic and exquisite! I love the design and colors. Plus, the dark glass of that window will provide privacy and security to the owners.

  17. I don't know how your door looks like, Stewart. All I can say for now is that glass door looks so attractive. Would you mind posting the whole image? I’m quite interested to see how it would look on your actual door. By the way, front doors are essential part of the house. It should be sturdy so that it can't be dismantled easily. Make sure that you lock it when you leave the house.

  18. That’s a real nice front door you have there, brother! I remember that we used to have something like this when I was younger. I remember playing with the reflections it has created on the floor. Anyway, since we welcome people in our home through our front doors, it’s best if our doors are as handsome as they can be.
