Wild Bird Wednesday - 100 WBW's

Hard to believe that it was almost two years ago that I took up the reins of the run-away horse that is WBW!

Dave Springman over at Pine River Review had run World Bird Wednesday for a couple of years, but had decided to hang up the telephoto and do other things - and I picked up where he left off.  With a slight rebadging we were off.

I need to say that Wild Bird Wednesday benefited greatly from the people who had already teamed up with Dave - so if anybody is still in contact with him, tell him I say "Hello!".

Somewhere in the region of 60 to 70 people link there blogs up through WBW - and normally about 200+ people visit.

These are a (slightly self indulgent) collection of images from my "header" posts for WBW - I hope you enjoy them!

Southern Cassowary - Daintree Rainforest, Queensland, Australia
Broad Billed Humming Bird - Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, Arizona, USA
Crested Tern - Mud Island,Victoria, Australia
Crimson Rosella - Lorne,Victoria, Australia
Crimson Rosella - Lambington National Park, Queensland, Australia

Eastern Spinebill, Lorne, Victoria, Australia
Eurasian Hoopoe, Muscat, Oman
Fairy Terns - Mud Island,Victoria, Australia
Green Rosella - Burny Island,Tasmania, Australia
Pink Eared Duck - Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Rainbow Bee-eater - Daintree, Queensland,  Australia
Red Knot - Pope's Eye,Victoria, Australia
Shy Albatross - Bruny Island,Tasmania, Australia
Silvereye - Yarra Valley,Victoria, Australia
Banded Stilts, Point Lonsdale, Victoria, Australia
Now its over to you to post your links - as this is a birthday (or sorts) why not make an extra effort to invite new bloggers along!  Cheers.  Here's to the next 200!

  2. Great stuff with the headers Stewart. I am sure everyone who visits Wild Bird Wednesday is appreciative of all your hard work.

I spotted the deliberate mistake. You can't fool us birders, we know a tern from a parrot!

  3. Congrats on almost two years of Wild Bird Wednesdays!! The Broad-Billed Hummingbird and the Crimson Rosella are my two favorite pictures in this set. Have a great day Stewart!

  6. HI Stewart Congratulations. You posts are all so interesting and have great photos as this one. Like Phil said, a Rosella is not a Tern! I think you maybe forgot to add the Tern shot in! Thanks for all your hard work over the past 2 years on WBW.

  14. A nice reminder of all of the wonderful birds you have in Australia ... and having you share them with us has been an eye opener for me. I love WBW mostly because you are so good and so likable ... I look forward to another 100 WBW's with you at the helm. I am hoping (it's still in the "wishful thinking" category) to be taking some pictures of your birds too ... maybe even with you as my guide (if the price is right:). I am expecting to go to Thailand for a wedding next year and I can't imagine getting that close and not making it happen ... fingers crossed. But that's a topic for another time ... for today, Congratulations Stewart ... and Thank you for making this such a wonderful experience.

  19. Err, I also saw the Tern vs Parrot but I was taught by my mentor (birder sister-in-law) never to argue with about birding. So I didn't ... Well done, Phil!!

  32. Congrats on your 100th WBW, Stewart. All of the photos you've chosen are excellent. I love the very colorful birds, but my favorite is the spinebill. Your capture shows him in a posture reminiscent of something Audubon would have portrayed.
