Eventually I tracked some down this weekend - a flock was gathered in a Liquid Amber tree in the only 1/2 hour of sunshine of the whole weekend. It made for difficult exposures and good images. It also gave me a chance to use a newish toy - I bean bag camera rest. I placed it on the roof go my car and used it to support my 400mm lens as I took the pictures. On the basis of a few photo outings I can only recommend that you get one!
The Little Corella - Cacatua sanguinea - is a small (what a surprise) cockatoo, measuring about 35 -39 cm. I only really see this bird in Melbourne during the winter months.

ReplyDeleteThey love that tree, don't they.
How awesome to get to see parrots in the wild! Great photos and I have heard good things about the bean bags - will have to try one out.
ReplyDeleteHello Stewart, congrats on your sighting. They are beautiful birds. It is great to see these small cockatoos free and not stuck in a cage. Great shots! Thanks for hosting, enjoy your week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat vibrant shots. And they sure have a cool eye marking. Have fun with your new toy. Once the sun comes out.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of these gorgeous birds!
ReplyDeletePretty...pretty. And against the deep, dark, wonderful blue of the sky makes for great bird photo composition Stewart.

ReplyDelete1/2hour is all you needed to get these lovely shots Stewart. Thanks for hosting
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Beautiful birds and photos!
ReplyDeleteThey have an interesting face pattern. Glad you sought them out and found them!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots Stuart..Gorgeous birds..We have a tree here that has those same seed pods..if that's what they are..They are really dangerous to walk on..One could easily turn an ankle...I don't know the name of the tree..Doubt that it's the same?? How's the kitty??
ReplyDeleteLove those faces! Beautiful birds; I'd want to go photo hunting them too. Thanks for sharing the finds and for hosting.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! They are neat-looking birds. Looks like the bean bag camera rest served you well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the link-up!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant photos, Stewart! I better get me a bean bag camera rest! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little birds.
ReplyDeleteIt's like they conspired with the sun to come out just for you! What a lovely blue sky! And the birds are just amazing! Glad the bean bag camera rest worked well.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds and beautiful blue sky!
ReplyDeleteYour Liquid Amber trees look a lot like the Sweet Gum trees we have here in the US. Those seed balls are such a nuisance, but I would like them more if we had those beautiful birds in them!
Happy Wild Bird Wednesday!
Lea
Super cool photos of the Cockatoos, Stewart.
ReplyDeleteJust like that in the wild, eh? Here they are expensive pets.
You have seen the documentary, "Parrots of Telegraph Hill?", by chance?
You might like it.
Thanks for hosting.
Have a Beautiful Day!!
Peace :)
I may just have to check out a bean bag camera rest, appears to have worked well for you. The birds are beautiful, really pretty eyes. Thanks for hosting, Stewart!
ReplyDeleteGlad you managed to get some sunshine. Looks like you made the most of it! Interesting markings below the eye. Thanks for sharing them. WBW 148? Doesn't seem that long ago we celebrated your 100th post. Like birds, time flies, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the Corellas. I wonder if all corellas are as noisy as the ones up our way!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine you not having your camera with you, Stewart. Is this perhaps since you're so enamored with handsome Mr Hudson? You've given me a great idea for those long and high shots - a camera bean bag to lean on... Thanks for sharing these amazing photos. Today I feel I've linked a decent post for the first time in months. Greetings Jo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of the Cockatoos Stewart.
ReplyDeletePhotos 1, 2 and 8 are my favorite.

ReplyDeletehow neat to see them out in the wild!
ReplyDeleteWhat great shots of them feeding. You were so lucky to have that beautiful blue sky for a background.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, I haven't tried a beanbag before, thanks for the tip
ReplyDeleteStewart, glad you stayed with your quest. Wonderful photos of this bird. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNicely done. Good to know about winter. I watched a TV show called Nature on them a couple nights ago.....water and fruiting trees are their lures. Pretty amazing birds you have in Australia. The program just focused on parrots and I was fascinated.
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful photography always takes my breath away, Stewart! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! We don't have this bird here.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Stewart. It's always a nice feeling to finally pin down a bird you've been chasing around, and with camera in hand too.
ReplyDeleteOh what wonderful images of these beautiful birds. I only get to see them in pet shops...huge sigh. Out on their own, doing what they do and being able to see them, must be such sweet pleasure~
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see them actually out in the wild. Here you only see them in cages or at children's petting zoos.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing parrots in the wild - as they should truly be! Great shots, Stewart!
ReplyDeleteHi Steward,
