These pictures were taken from a moving car on the 'expressway' from Agra to Delhi, just as the Sun was setting.
One part of that journey was dominated by the chimneys of what I take to be brick works - tall chimneys belching smoke surrounded by deep pits where clay (?) had been removed. I wondered if this was a window into what some landscapes looked like at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution - heavy industry still set within a rural landscape. Whatever the truth of this idea, it really is an example of India being a land of contrasts.
You can find more skies at Sky Watch Friday.

ReplyDeleteOh I miss those dusty skies! Whilst not in favour of the high-density impact of such things, there is still something alluring about industrial landscapes - particularly in profile. YAM xx
Lovely shots of the setting sun. Interesting photos. Cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteStaffordshire must gave resembled this.
ReplyDeleteIndustrial shots in the sunset..Perfect! Nice photos
ReplyDeletethe writer screams, "Cliche!"
ReplyDeleteShow me anyplace not a land of contrast
(smile)
I like the last photo - a peaceful scene
ReplyDeleteHave a great week-end!
I remember my own trip to India. I was doing the same thing. After all the trip from Delhi to Agra was about 4-5 hours, plenty of time to watch the passing scenery and boy there were lots of sceneries to enjoy.

Great contrasts in these images!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of the pollution from the chimneys, but it makes for great photos!! It does look like the early industrial revolution days!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of something not so great.
ReplyDeletemooi genomen en dat vanuit een rijdende auto dat valt niet altijd even mee.vooral als de wegen een beetje slecht zijn.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. It is sobering to see all that smoke being poured into the air.
ReplyDeleteHello Stewart!:) You caught the moment perfectly, but I like the last shot the best without the smoke.
ReplyDeleteThe skies are just beautiful. But so much smoke -- although we have that here right now ourselves. Steam from the power plant (it looks like smoke) and real smoke behind it --- there is a fire in a commercial mulch pile that they are just going to let simmer out over time. It's nowhere close to us, but when the wind blows just right, we smoke up. Hate that.
ReplyDeleteHi Stewart-
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking me to Agra and other beautiful places in Northern India.
Fantastic snaps, especially the parrots.
Have a Happy Day!
Peace :)
Lovely scenes - but so sad to think that they are probably created by pollution.
ReplyDeleteAwesome colors...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! You are right, one foot in the past, and one in the future.
