Wild Bird Wednesday 243 - Rose-ringed Parakeet

The Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) was a vocal and common resident of the Lodi Gardens in New Delhi.  This bird is very wide spread in Asia and Africa and it is the only naturalised parrot in the UK.  This seems to suggest that it is an adaptable bird!

This species is about 40cm long.  While I am not an expert on such things, I think that the black 'collar' on this bird shows that it is a male.




The next set of picture were taken in the gardens around the Taj Mahal - which just goes to show that there is more to see there than just a remarkable building!

    Oh my, I am feeling faint ... could it be true? After all this time I have finally been the first to post on your blog. That is such a good feeling ... don't ask me why, but just because. Remember when we used to use "just because" as an excuse as kids when asked why ... or maybe you didn't do that in the UK. Anyway, I do love this parrot. He is a beauty and green is my favorite color so even with the rose colored ring, I like him. Of course the female is just green and that suits me just fine. Wonderful post, as always ... And, the pressure is on and will remain on until you know who is gone :)

    Yes, Stewart I remember seeing hundreds of the damn things around the Taj. Horrible grating calls too. And now they're breeding in the UK.

    Très belles images de cet oiseau qui a également trouvé son bonheur en France puisqu'il se reproduit désormais dans les parcs et cimetières parisiens, les avenues bordées de platanes à Montpellier et peut-être bien d'autres endroits que nous ignorons. Nous les avons également observées dans les palmiers du parc Güell à Barcelone... ;-)

    That is a gorgeous bird .... it seems like some of the more adaptable birds are not so beautiful (grackles, starlings) .... with this beauty, I'm glad they can get along well in so many places. Thank you for hosting as ever!
