There seemed to be a small resident group of Superb Fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus) in the garden in the house we stayed in at Apollo Bay.
These are tiny, fast moving birds - and as such were a bit of challenge. The adult male (and sometimes others as well) objected very strongly to presence of 'alien' birds in the wing mirrors of our car and they would display and attack the reflection. This at least give me a chance to know where the birds would be!
So, here are some Superb Fairy-wrens in a variety of locations from the garden.

Hello, this is a beautiful little bird. I would love to see one in the wild too. Great series of photos. Thanks for hosting. Enjoy your day and the week ahead.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful little guy
ReplyDeleteThat mirror was a convenient birding accessory! Pugnacious but beautiful little chaps!
ReplyDeletelol, I had some final images of this couple still not linked up. They are gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful little birds! Love the long tails!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Stewart. Their poses are certainly very aggressive and your car mirrors proved very handy for those pictures. Once again, thanks for the link-up today.
ReplyDeleteThey are so tiny and sweet looking, but obviously can get aggressive...even for the wrong reasons. We once had a robin that kept on attacking his reflection in our deck window. Every day when the light was right he’d fly down ready to wage war. I worried about him. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThese wrens are have gorgeous blue colouring!
ReplyDeleteOh, they are adorable. Except for the doo, doo.
ReplyDeleteWow what a pretty bird, I love it. Cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteThey're such a beauty! Love them. I hope to see one someday.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of those beautiful little wrens. I haven't seen them around here - instead we see the Red-backed and the Variegated forms.

ReplyDeleteOne of my all-time faves in the avian world! YAM xx
Gorgeous little bird. Great pics, perfect to share with us. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSuch a uniquely colored bird! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great week!
Hi Stewart, what a pretty bird. And with a pretty aggressive stance as well! Thanks for sharing these beautiful birds and for hosting this meme. Have a great day. Jo
ReplyDeleteOh the Wrens, they are a magnificent group and this little beauty is the piece' de resistance. How lucky you are to just lay eyes on him and to catch him in his feisty display is awesome ... even comical. I had a female Cardinal that used to see her reflection in the garage window right next to her nest. I used to wonder if she had time to feed her babies she was so obsessed with that reflection. But, in the end, all was well and the babies fledged ... but I am guessing she was close to a nervous breakdown. Love this post, Stewart ...

Cute birds! Love the blue head.
ReplyDeleteExquisite little bird! You got some amazing photos. I try to shoot the chickadees and juncos here and they move pretty fast too so I understand your difficulty. But, wow!
ReplyDeleteStewart, what an amazing little bird. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletePrettiest bird in all of Australia (in my opinion!) It's on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous little bird..sure making a mess of your car..Do they do that during mating season??

ReplyDeleteHi Stewart: I remember this species well from time spent in Australia. We are presently on vacation in Slovenia and Croatia and will be heading back home in another week. We will start to firm up our plans for next year in December and will put some dates on the trip. Have a great weekend. David
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, I like the deep blue color. I'm from Europe, so I don't have the chance to see them in my Garden.
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
