I think it's the common birds I miss the most from the UK. The everyday birds. The backyard birds.
I never had Mute Swans (Cygnus olor) in my backyard, but as a keen angler they were a (more or less) everyday bird.
These Swans were taken at various locations on the Somerset Levels around Glastonbury. For all that I enjoyed my time 'on the Levels' the light was often difficult and the birds rather distant. I was a relief to find some that were just a little larger!
I rather like the symmetry of the last image.

Beautiful! I love the spread wings. Great catch. Happy Thanksgiving. Do you do Thanksgiving? Enjoy your day anyway.
ReplyDeleteEvery portrait is beautiful. I do like the female with the symmetrical wake behind her. And especially love th fluttering wing ones.
ReplyDeleteI will try to remember to link up with my birdies tomorrow...;)
ReplyDeleteI think these swans are divine! So do the golf courses here:)
ReplyDeleteThey are such graceful birds!
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the 5th and last images Stewart and thank you for hosting. Have a good week ahead.
ReplyDeleteI should be seeing swans very soon we have a long spell over Christmas and New Year caring for FIL in the UK. Lovely photos of beautiful birds. Have a good week Diane
ReplyDeleteCommon birds are beautiful birds, however. These swans are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMute Swan is a very handsome bird and we have a substantial population in Ontario. They are not always popular, however, since they are aggressive towards native species, and they can prevent other waterfowl from nesting. In Maryland, USA, a few years ago they had a total cull of all the Mute Swans there.
ReplyDeleteSome great photos of the extended wings!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful swans! I love their wings out and ready to fly...or just stretching!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I saw some near Verona in Italy before I was a birder. It seemed surreal to see them in real life!
ReplyDeleteYour persistence paid off. Beautiful captures of a beautiful bird.
ReplyDeleteHello Stewart. Great photos. Mute swans are big and very temperamental birds.
ReplyDeleteLove the shots with the raised wings!
ReplyDeleteFabulous!!
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite birds. We have quite a lot of them but they seem to stay out of peoples way. It is hard to get close to them these days.
