This is my attempt to do a sky shot that is not dominated by the sky. I think you can tell what is happening in the sky by the color of the lighthouse. There was a huge tide that evening - this shot was taken to the music of thundering waves.

World Bird Wednesday - White-Faced Heron.
Whilst looking through rock pools in the rain – as good a thing to do when it’s raining as we could think of at the time! – we were visited by this White-Faced Heron. The heron seemed to be hunting for small crabs, but most of them just escape by burrowing into the sand. You can see one escaping on the bottom RHS of the picture. After a while the heron seemed to give up and flew off.

My World Tuesday - Hazzards in the sun.
When it finally stopped raining it’s easy to see why Freycinet is so popular! These shots are taken from the same place on the beach but just looking in opposite directions. Just shows that if you are somewhere special, that you may need a bit of patience to see what you want to see!

The Hazards (Friday Skies)
One of the advantages of rain is that it brings clouds with – and sometimes the clouds do strange things.
This line of cloud formed over along the Hazards on the Freycinet Peninsula on the east coast of Tasmania.

World Bird Wednesday - Green Rosella.
Just spent a wet and rather wild week in Tasmania – one of the endemic species found down there is this parrot – the Green Rosella. Saw these by the road side, hit the brakes and rushed out – two shots later they were gone. The first picture was not worth the memory it occupied – but I was rather pleased with this one. Splendid birds with a bell like voice. I heard them far more often than I saw them, which always seems strange for such a colourful beast.

My World Tuesday - Friendly Beaches.
I have just returned from a very wet week in Tasmania – wonderful place and really very different from the mainland of Australia. There is a real sense of wildness, and if you are lucky enough to be there outside of the Tasmanian school holidays you can have beaches like this more or less to yourself. The rain and clouds had stripped much of the colour from the landscape – but the orange of the cast up sea weeds and the lichens on the rocks were real beacons of colour. Apart from two surfers we did not see another person on this beach. The beach is called ‘Friendly Beaches’ and they are on the east coast. Will put up some more iconic images soon – but these images sum up the week – wild, wet, but still wonderful.

Western Skies (Friday Skies)
Spent the weekend in the west of the state. Looking for evidence of flooding and found these skies instead. It looked like burning clouds were flowing out of a single point on the horizon. Wonderful. My World Tuesday - On the Road.
I spent the weekend in the west of the state, in and around the town of Horsham. This is a very different landscape, out past the Grampians, with roads that are ruler straight. I was also struck by how different the colour of the roads were - ranging from almost white to orange red.
