I know that I have posted pictures of these birds - possibly this actual bird - before, but I really like them. They are also one of the more visible species on part of my local patch.
So, these are Australasian Swamphens (Porphyrio melanotus) which are now considered a full species rather than a sub-species of Purple Swamphen.

it doesn't matter how often a bird (species or individual) is spotted, each image is different and worth the viewing! I like the swamphens to, there is something of the elegant clown about them. YAM xx

Our Florida exotic swamphens were called Purple Swamphens but although there may be some mixed blood they are now considered to be Gray-headed Swamphens, a distinct species. They do not closely resemble your birds as to head color and contrasting dark wings.

I remember seeing a bird that resembles that when vacationing in Aruba. Of course, I had no idea what it was, but there was a man also bird watching who told me it was a moor hen of some sort...:)jp
