Busy week ahead – so, posts are going up early!
Here we have two Australasian Pelicans – count the legs if you missed the sleeping one in the front!
I can only assume that the bird with its beak open is getting a drink – it really was throwing down with rain at the time! It would wait a few minutes in this position, close its beak, give its head a good shake and they open up again! Maybe it had eaten some bad fish!
You can find more birds from around the world at World Bird Wednesday.
You can also see the most recent post on my other blog by clicking the Paying Ready Attention picture on the RHS of the screen.
Enjoy the birds.

Wow, what a great shot!
ReplyDeleteI missed that there were two there too.
Have a great day.
Great picture! I would never have noticed that was a pair if you hadn't pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Pelicans are always fun to watch and to photograph.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool, Stewart! I didn't realize there was another pelican there. The open beak on the other bird draws your attention. Nice "trick" photo!
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a mouth he has lol
ReplyDeleteThe beak is huge in comparison to its body. Hope the rain flush out or flush in the bad fish.
ReplyDeleteYour photo is awesome! Love it!
Great image, Stewart! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Birds. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteI did have to count legs and I'll take your word there is not a four legged pelican in Australia.
ReplyDeleteNice one Stewart!
What a wonderful pose you caught that Pelican in. The sleeping one didn't know he was missing his chance at fame on WBW!
ReplyDeleteguess there's nothing quite like the rain for a thirst-quencher. Too much of the salty stuff just isn't good for the digestion
ReplyDeleteright enough, I did not believe till I counted the legs :-)
