I've gone back to my Indian pictures for this week's WBW - this is a Jungle Babbler (Turdoides striata) and I saw this bird at Sultanpur National Park, which must been one of the most productive 'overseas' birding locations I have ever been too.
This bird gathers in small flocks, and the translation of one of its Indian names is Seven Brothers. They were noisy, active and hard to photograph.

ReplyDeleteThat bird has a wonderful name ... quite descriptive it sounds like from your words.... and speaking of text ... when I see a bird that is shy, highly active, and hard to photograph, I would have only words to describe the sighting, definitely not great pictures like these. I'm glad you are more talented and more patient than I am. Thanks for sharing and for hosting as always.

ReplyDeleteHe looks like a cross between a Gray Cat Bird and a Thrasher ... do they call him a Babbler because he is a mimic? India is not on my Bucker List, but maybe it should be ... Many, many birds. Not as many where you are now, but beautiful scenery. Did you go up on Jung Frau Yuk (Spelling?) yet? If you didn't, you should. When we were up there it was snowing and foggy so we saw nothing, but the word is that the view is awesome. Enjoy, enjoy, Stewert.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter tends to be a little talkative at times and once, with her two boys, we were assigning bird names to each member of the family. Her monicker was Yellow-haired Babbler!
