The Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) is a widespread bird, being found in Australia, India, New Guinea, Borneo and Indonesia. It's common in my part of the world, and you can be almost guaranteed of seeing some in any swampy or damp area.
They are not as splendid as the Swamphens, but they do have a certain rustic charm!

Stay safe, and stay home. (I have added a few new book reviews to that part of my blog if you need some inspiration for in house activity!) SM
Good photographs of the Dusky Moorhen. On my walk today I saw a pair of our UK Moorhen really fighting tooth and nail. Thanks for hosting and hope you and your family are well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Nice to see the pair!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very similar to our Common Moorhen or Gallinule. They are really beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteBeauties. I've gotta start publishing to you on our Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThey are a common sight but very cute! Great pictures too :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting looking birds!
ReplyDeleteAgnes Moorhen?

ReplyDelete...this morning, an enormous bumble bee, all fresh and bright and big-eyed, flew in our kitchen window. So very handsome and unconcerned by anything other than finding a nook for a nest. Somehow it raised the spirits inordinately... and the sight of these little water hens added to that lift. Ta. YAM xx
They look at home amid the rushes. I still call our local species "Common Moorhen" even though we do not have any "moors" here in the USA.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting Wild Bird Wednesday!
The Dusky Moorhen is quite similar to our Common Moorhen. Great birds!
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how these birds can navigate through such swampy areas with ease and grace...:)JP
ReplyDeleteNice set of photos Stewart. Hope you are managing during lock-down. Stay well, Diane
ReplyDeleteDusky Moorhen is....well, a nice little dusky moorhen!
ReplyDeleteHi Stewart. I can imagine many UK twitchers getting very excited about a Dusky Moorhen. Sadly, not I.
ReplyDeleteHe's a beautiful bird. I didn't meet him in Melbourne.
ReplyDeleteNice duet.
Good continuation Stewart. Here we can not go out, fortunately my property is very large.
Take care of yourself.
It is not seeable in Turkey I think...
