Out and About

This lockdown nearly broke me, but my loved ones are still here and we are healthy.

So, it is with considerable relief that I was able to go for a walk today without a mask.  On the weekend I will be driving an hour and half from home to go on a fly fishing course.  And last Friday I met up with a friend from work to go birding.

When I was out and about on Friday evening I heard a commotion behind me and turned to see this icon of Australia being harassed by a Grey Fantail.

You can find more pictures from around the world at Our World Tuesday.

It was good to be out.

It's good to be back.

  1. Perhaps the Kookaburra and the Grey Fantail were letting you know that they liked it perfectly well when humans were locked up! We can all share your sense of relief, Stewart, at regaining your freedom, but the trend in South Australia doesn't look good does it? By and large, though, Australia has been a model for the world in tackling this pandemic.

  2. Lockdown is not easy we are still in full lockdown and not really sure as to when we will be out of it.
I love the Kookaburra, fascinating birds. Enjoy your fishing.
    Keep safe Diane

  3. Hello,
I believe the lockdown almost broke you. I had the same feeling last spring in Italy.
Now here in Finland we are not enclosed as the contagion is not high.
    Wonderful shot.
All the best! Enjoy your outings!

  4. I am so glad to hear that you can be out and about again. While I could go out birding most any time by myself, I just haven't done it. With the winter visitors arriving daily, though, it may be time to head out and see what I can find.

  5. I envy the birds their freedom. Enjoy life once again now that you have been released. We have another couple of weeks before we are out of lockdown but we already know we will have restrictions imposed upon us when lockdown is over.

  6. Beautiful picture and bird... Happy week and Stay safe..

  7. I hope your freedom will be able to continue. That is a great photo!

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwsssiiigghhhhhh.... I need to find some kookas on the tubular and have a listen for a while... YAM xx

  9. I've only seen them in photos - never even at a zoo or aviary. I'll have to look them up to hear what they sound like. I'm curious!
Please come join this week's party at

  10. That bird looks like the blue Kingfisher we have here in the US. Great photo. Masks still required here in the US. I didn't go out on the trails much this year, because I was worried others wouldn't follow the social distancing and mask rules.

  11. Fabulous bird shot! I share your joy at being able to be out and about. it's the only thing keeping me relatively sane...

  12. Love your photo of the Kookaburra and glad you survived lockdown. Nature is a good healer.

  13. Hello Stewart
a very beautiful bird, I've never seen one like this, nice photo
    Stay healthy
    Greetings Frank
