Wild Bird Wednesday - Rainbow Bee-eater

Some of you may know that I have just returned from a trip to the Daintree Rainforests.
One of the (many) highlights of this holiday was an evening trip along the Daintree River.  At the day’s end we drifted along small channels and weaving our way along the wider river.  There was the kind of stillness that only comes after heavy rain.
At the end of one channel, formed between an island and the bank we found a small group of Rainbow Bee-eaters.  The very name alone tells you that this is a bird well worth seeing. Two or three of these birds hawked for flies (not bees!) from the branches of a dead tree as we tried to get closer.
After a day of rain, it only seemed appropriate that we found rainbows.

So no I welcome you to join in the first Wild Bird Wednesday – my thoughts about this meme can be found by clicking the tab at the top of the page.
So, now I invite you to use the link tool below to start building a group of Wild Bird Photographers.

Hi Stewart, really neat looking birds, and thank you for taking up the meme.
I have tried several times to add my link, but when I click on to add my link, where the word "Comments" is, it shows up rather large and cover the "try here". Neither way works. Am I missing oing something? I cannot click on either way...ugh. Thank you so much~

Those are adorable birds; I am glad you are hosting a second chapter of this meme for birders to share. I don't always have an entry but I always loved Springman's meme and I'm sure I'll always love yours (I will go and read your other blog as soon as I post this).

Stewart, first I have to thank you for keeping the World Bird meme going. I really do love seeing everyone's birds from around the world. I was sad to see Springman's come to an end. I am happy now though for WBW part II. I love your Bee-eater, they are gorgeous birds. Wonderful photos.

Good man Stewart in stepping into the breach, I'm pleased to join in. Rainbow Bee Eaters look to be ven more colourful than European Bee Eaters - nice pics.

Good luck with the new WBW Stewart! I think you are the right guy to carry on this mini-tradition. Your birding expertise and sense of humor will certainly be an asset. Have fun Brother, I can't wait to contribute!

Stewart, thank you so much for this bird meme. A nice challenge to photograph birds in the wild.
Your Rainbow Bee-eaters are a real delight. I just love their iridescent plumage. I have only seen them once here on the farm and that was almost 20 years ago.
Glad you got up to the Daintree, even if it was raining.

Sorry, I did not realise earlier that you had already started the meme. Thanks for the reminder.

First, great shots. Thank you Stewart so much for taking over the meme. I did not know that World Bird closed. I just changed my entry with your links and posted it here. I am happy I can continue to share my birds.

Thanks, Stewart, for keeping the WBW group alive and well! I also hope that Springman will be our constant companion. Will have to learn how to calculate Australian time-- did you mean that the meme will open early each Wednesday and close early each Friday?

Ps....Stewart, I too felt a void in a bird photo meme and started up on for Sundays. I hope if you have any bird photos for that day on your blog that you will come join.

I posted on Sunday, so right now, nothing 'new' to link up. But I did post one 'comical' bird photo on my personal blog...Hootin' Anni's [the Olympic Avocets].

thanks for the invite. And I appreciate you adding another meme for us birders!!!

There are so many birds that I have never heard of and now you have pictures of a pair of Rainbow bee-eaters. How exciting that must have been for you. You are brave to take on this meme as it is a lot of work, I am sure. But, I truly appreciate that you are willing because I was floundering around not knowing what I would do with my pictures ... enter the hero :) Thank you so much and I will see you again and again, I am sure.
