The old Moon with the New Moon in her arms. (Friday Skys)

I’ve been thinking about the Moon over the last few days – in fact the next post on my other blog is about the Moon and the lack of darkness (it should be posted by the weekend if you are interested)
It’s not really the best time to try and do anything to do with the Moon, given that we are very close to a New Moon.
Anyway – here are two pictures I have taken in the last couple of weeks. The second of the two images shows “The old Moon with the New Moon in her arms”.

The bright crescent is illuminated by sunlight, but the pale disc in the crescent arms is illuminated by light bouncing back from the Earth. I rather like seeing this, even if the image is not really a prize winner

You can find more images of the sky here at Skywatch Friday

  6. Hi Stewart,

Have enjoyed checking out all your photos and posts. I was recommended you by Mick from sandystraitsandbeyond blog in regards to an arts project I'm working on that investigates migratory birds and human networks that work to support them. It would be great to get in touch if you don't mind emailing me at theanxietyfreeguide (at) gmail (dot) com. I'm an artist based in Melbourne and keen to make contact with local birders who might be interested in being involved. I'm more than happy to give you more detailed information via email if you'd like. Hopefully will hear from you soon!
    Regards, Liz

  11. well hello Stewart, I must confess, just after leaving that comment about the bunting looking similar to a parrot I suspected I'd be called out on it! you are correct, there are many differences but each spectacular in their own right. your moon shots are a real fascination, the expression fresh to my ears. thanks for visiting my blog and saying hello, I truly appreciate it, and I'm happy to have met you, as you have an enticing blog here. I'll be back for more visits.
