Macro Monday - Australian Painted Lady
I’ve not been having a lot of joy on the butterfly front this summer – seems I’m in the wrong places at the wrong time. Or the right places with the wrong lens!
Anyway – these are from last summer. These are Australian Painted Lady butterflies, taken on the summit of Mt. Donna Buang, which is a mountain of about 1250m (4100 ft) about an hour’s drive from Melbourne.
I think I need to go back and have a walk in that area soon!

Hi Stewart and thanks for stopping by my blog. I didn't find your banding post but I'll look again.ReplyDelete
such lovely photos, the light is amazing!ReplyDelete
Great shots Stewart!ReplyDelete
My first butterfly shots were of the Australian Painted Lady - interestingly, when I was down on the MP at my parents house in December(in their garden which is a butterfly heaven). Luckily I was walking through the garden, with my telephoto zoom lens attached. I didn't manage to get one with wings open like you did though!
can't wait to get our blooms and butterflies going here... :)ReplyDelete
What a beautiful butterfly, and excellent captures of it.ReplyDelete
They're lovely -- and always hard to get good pictures of, the flitty little things!.ReplyDelete
Since I live in a land of snow, I'm happy that you've posted these Painted Ladies. Enjoy the rest of your summer!ReplyDelete
Those are awesome shots! The colors are amazing.ReplyDelete
Butterfly photos take a lot of patience for sure. I love the one of the painted lady on the buttercups.ReplyDelete
I find them very elusive and difficult to photograph. They flit about so very fast!
Happy Macro Monday!
Excellent captures Stewart!ReplyDelete
Yes, I think you should definitely go back soon.
Such a beautiful little butterfly. Great pictures.ReplyDelete
Butterflies do seem to be rather camera shy. Great shots.ReplyDelete
