A view from a hill.

This is the view from the top of Mt. Amos, on of the peaks of The Hazards in Freycinet.  If you want to see what the peak looks like from sea-level, its the flat looking peak in the middle of these pictures.

The walk to the top of Mt. Amos takes about two and a bit hours - and in some places its steep enough to warrant putting your hand on the rock now and then.  Needless to say, the kids loved it.

The view from the top is a classic - and its not a bad place for lunch!

The bay is called Wineglass Bay - and it's a bit of an icon really.   I know its all psychological, but any food you eat in a place like this seems to taste so much better than usual!

And yes, the sky really was that colour!  Summer in Australia - you need to see it to believe it sometimes!

  17. It seems so inadequate to just say, "Wow"! What a magnificent vista, Stewart!
I'm afraid I would love to have a picnic there but would never want to leave!

  18. I remember an earlier post of this amazing spot on earth! It (and this one) both blow me away! It is incredibly gorgeous! How wonderful to be able to climb the peak and look down on the bay.

Thanks for your comment on not worrying about my photo quality. I really appreciated that. I was so happy to get our new camera, but even it has it's limits, and I think someday I may get one with removable lenses, that can really get in close with the birds. But for now, I do what I can! :-)

  24. How beautiful Stewart ... the color blue has never looked bluer and the white beach on the hourglass ... an artist couldn't even dream up such perfection. As for the food tasting better ... You just climbed a mountain for 2 plus hours for heaven sake ... you were probably starving. A cracker would taste good when you're that hungry :)But, I can see that this is a perfect place for a picnic and I am not at all surprised that the kids loved all of it.
