Oxford

This time yesterday I was in a plane somewhere between Zurich and Singapore.  Physically I am now at home, but chronologically I am in another time zone.

My month away started in Oxford in the UK, with a few days on a (stationary) long boat - while I enjoyed this experience, I'm not sure it was the best way to overcome the inevitable tiredness of a flight from Australia.

The view from the 'duck door' (a large side door in the boat) more or less made up for the lack of space.  I'd really like to do a bit of a journey in one of these old school vessels.

Lots more pictures to follow.

You can find more shots from around the world at Our World Tuesday.

  4. Until recently I've visited Oxford several times a year and have walked this path. Now though I've moved north - to Halifax - and have a new blog to associate with the news. (To mix Dorset with West Yorkshire might confuse random readers.) Here is the URL

Enjoy the rest of your time 'abroad'.

  5. Hi Stewart, it must have been a bit strange in some ways, being back in the "Old country" hope you enjoyed it. Been to Oxford city a few times when my Daughter was at Merton college for three years ferrying her back and forth.
    Hope you are recovering, Gordon.

  6. Steward you should have told me, I only live a few miles from Oxford and used to work near where you moored your boat. Great Photos

Crikey, believe it (or not), I just finished reading a book about life on a narrow boat, which the owners sailed across the Channel, amongst other craziness... look for "Narrow Dog to Carcasonne" - very entertaining! YAM xx

  9. You have certainly been putting the miles in of late. What a leisurely way to travel, maybe next time you can see a little more of the country that way.

  10. Great photos. Looks sort of familiar as we lived in Oxfordshire between leaving Africa and arriving in France. Cheers Diane

  11. I would love to live on a boat...if I could just get my wife to give up the walk in closet.

  12. Now, I want to stay in one of these boats! I am sure it will be a unique experience. Are they uncomfortable? I ask because you say it wasn't the best idea after a flight from Australia.
