Macro Monday - Black Swan

This is a Black Swan on the appropriately named Swan River in Perth Western Australia.  This bird - and a number of others - was loafing about on a small sand spit and seemed much more tolerant of people presence than normal - but strangely did not seem to be looking for a food handout.

As you can see from the feathers there was a light rain falling at the time - and I rather like the rain drops on the feathers.

You can find more macro shots at Macro Monday.

Enjoy the close ups.

  4. I do love the Black Swans ... I never see them here, but have seen them in zoos (sadly). This is an incredible picture, Stewart. The detail is wonderful, but I especially like the pose she is in ... keeping an eye on you while she preens, I presume ... or is she just resting? Whichever ... great job!

  10. Have just visited Leeds Castle where they have black swans. They are so much smaller than white ones and as your picture shows they look quite beautiful.

  15. What a great "pose" you've captured here, Stewart--is that common for them to tuck in like that in bad weather? Wonderful detail of rain beading on feather tips. Have only seen black swans in formal gardens in Europe.

  16. My uncle said there was a black swan on the lake next to his property when he first moved there, but it's never returned since the first sighting. This is really lovely with the water drops on the feathers.
