Wild Bird Wednesday 76 - A Christmas Bower

Hi there and welcome to the Christmas day edition of Wild Bird Wednesday!  By the time this posts the big day will have started in New Zealand and be just a few hours old in Australia.  You guys in the west will have to wait a little longer!

Just a post and run today - but I thought I'd put up some bowerbirds  As cardboard cut-outs they would make great decorations on a Christmas tree - and in the flesh they are real show stoppers!

Thanks to all the linkers, commenters, +1ers and folk who just pop now and then for making WBW what it is.  I have no idea how it ranks compared to other bird sites - but I think we have build a good little community here - so I'll see you in 2014.

Satin Bowerbird (female)

Satin Bowerbird (male)
Regent Bowerbird (female and male)

Now its your turn to join in - if you are here on Christmas day (or there abouts) I assume you know what to do!

  15. Great photos of the Bowerbirds. I don't have experience of the Regent B but the Satin B are a disaster around fruit trees! They don't eat a lot but they spoil it all for others!!

  19. What? You couldn't find a red and green bird to post? Well a bird with purple eyes and little green tufts on it's cere will do for this special day. They are all beautiful and I couldn't agree more, you certainly have built a wonderful community and I am happy to be part of it. I know because you have children at home that this will be a fun time for you and your family. My best wishes to all of you ... Thanks for a great year of birding. I love what I learn from you, and am looking forward to another fun year...

  27. Don't you just love the female bowerbird? In my book her markings outshine the metallic male. A lovely post Stewart. Hope you all are having the best Christmas ever.
It just cooled down here too and, oh bliss oh joy, I can open the house and let the cool air drift through.
