World Bird Wednesday - Welcome Swallow

There is something about this image I like.  I spent more than a few minutes trying to catch Welcome Swallows in flight – and most of the images ended up in the bin.
I think this captures the speed and movement of the bird, even if you would not use it as a ‘field guide’ shot.
You can find more birds from around the world at World Bird Wednesday.
You can find the latest post to my other blog by clicking the Paying Ready Attention image on the RHS of the page.
Enjoy the birds.

  1. This photo made me smile, Stewart, because I spent quite a while last weekend trying to capture a tree swallow in flight. They really do fly fast and turn corners quickly too. :)

  3. Indeed it is a lovely image, Stewart. My first thought about it was "a visual haiku!" :-)

  4. I must say that watching swallows fly is one of my all time favorite things Stewart, and this is an excellent shot. I have a few decent swallow in flight shots and they took a long time to get ;-)

  5. There is something special about the nature and habits of Swallows.
Nice to see your sweet flight shot of one in Australia. Didn't know y'all had them.:)

  6. Nice photo and I like all the sky because that's how swallows are usually seen.

  7. Beautiful picture you show.
Sometimes it's incredibly difficult to "shoot" birds.
Many of my "shot" is also thrown away.
    Wishing you a good day.

  11. Pretty swallow in flight. I have tried so hard to capture a swallow in flight, it is hard. Well done, Stewart.

  12. I too was amused as I recently tried very hard to do the same and only managed to get a more than soft focus shot by a fluke.

    Well done Stewart!

  15. This reminds me of the difficulty I have in capturing a photo of dragonflies.

  19. That is a great clear flight image, Stewart. Welcome swallows must be on the photography menu as I posted about them too for WBW.

  20. Nice shot of the barn swallow. We have them too so I know what it takes to get a shot like yours. But it is fun to do it. :)
