Close up and far away

Due to a but of an issue with my ankle - sort of self inflicted by running about with H in the dark! - I have not been out and about much over the last couple of weeks.

This is an oldish image, where I was trying to do both near and far in a single image.  The shape in the sign is a cormorant, one of the more common water birds at Blackburn Lake.

I'm glad I have an archive!

You can find more macro shots at Macro Monday 2 and I love Macro.

Enjoy the pictures!

  1. Hi Stewart Now this looks very interesting and looks like sculture. How did you use photoshop?

  2. Hi Marget - no use of photoshop - the sign is cut from a solid sheet of iron - I focused on the background through one of the holes in the sheet of iron - all one shot, which almost no manipulation (there is a slight crop)

    How did you do that?

  9. Stewart! You cannot be doing what we once did decades ago at this stage of our lives. I'd like to have the metal art in my yard. Get better soon.

  10. Very cool photo & metal cutting!
Not so cool about your ankle, sorry to hear that. My husband broke his ankle about a year and a half ago.. it really put a damper on hiking & activity that involved a lot of walking for quite a while. Speedy recovery, Stewart!

I also want to learn how to get both the near and distant objects both clear in a photo, e.g. moon and tree! Yours is very lovely done.

  24. When I first saw the image...I saw it upside down...not literally...but I thought it was a salamander type with it's head at the bottom...then "voila"! I saw the cormorant!!!
