I went for a brief post Christmas walk this morning - trying to make room for Boxing Day lunch! It was rather quiet on my local patch in terms of birds - and those that were there proved to be rather camera shy.
However, these Pacific Black Ducks (Anas superciliosa) were out and about - probably looking to a post Christmas snack!
If Christmas is as busy for you as it is for me, some calming ducks may not be a bad thing - so here they are!
Well, the next WBW will be next year! Have fun.

Beautiful markings on those ducks. Enjoy the holidays!
ReplyDeleteWent searching for a snowy owl on Christmas Eve with no luck. I may go out again today and tomorrow. Now is my best chance for seeing one as there have been numerous sightings in the area, just got to be at the right place at the right time. Our time here is running short and we'll be headed back home in a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI love the ducks. Do you have Black bellied whistling ducks there? They're stunning birds.
They are pretty ducks and I love the reflections. All the best for 2018. Cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteWe had a quiet, not so busy, Christmas this year. And, it is waaaaay to cold to go out hunting for birds, so I am content to come look at your beautiful black ducks. They look like robbers with their black masks and handsome in spite of their suspicious looks. You are lucky because Christmas just isn't Christmas without kids around to up the excitement. But, I have to admit, quiet is a nice way to go as well :) Hope your Holidays all the way to the New Years Eve events are wonderful and comfortably warm. My Izzi loves the snow so I have grown to love it too, but the - 11 degree weather and the 15 minutes it takes for me to get enough layers on to take her out ... well, I can do without that! Happy New Year, Stewart, as we won't see you until 2018. 2018 is a big year for those of us that hope to strip power from our despicable president and his cowardly minions. Fingers crossed ...

ReplyDeleteWonder why they're a "Black Duck"...do names sometimes make you wonder, Stewart or is it just me???? Well, regardless of the reason, they are a handsome (and well reflected) creature!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteHello, your Black Duck looks a lot like our American Black Duck. Great photos. I hope you and your family had a happy Christmas! Enjoy your day and the week ahead!
ReplyDeleteFine images Stewart. Thank You!
ReplyDeleteStewart, Thanks for sharing. May you have a blessed New Year.
ReplyDeleteInteresting face pattern! I guess they are "quackers" related to the Mallard as our Mottled and Black Ducks. Tack sharp photos. Happy New Year, Stewart!
ReplyDeleteEach is a beautiful shot. It amazes me how ducks still like to swim in the water when it is freezing cold. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteclearly, she kept her eye on you!
