I have come to believe that Jet Lag is evolution's revenge for allowing us to invent air travel. My spirit is almost broken!
These are some pictures from a recent trip to a local pond - they show a Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) checking out its reflection.
I am capable of no more!

ReplyDeleteI never used to be too bothered with jet lag. Hate to say, but may be that ageing doesn't help! Anyhoo, the birdy is a beaut :-) YAM xx
Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteIf I was a bird, I'd want to be named dusky skyler. Or something like that. Yes, in regard to your painted bunting comment. Indeed, it is. We saw that one in Costa Rica, but often see them in Florida too. At Corkscrew Swamp. But, being that they are busy eating and hunting, and I don't have much patience, I don't get many photos. I hope you see one someday in your travels!
ReplyDeleteJet lag can take its toll, that's for sure. Age doesn't make it any better.
ReplyDeleteI do not know why the AOU changed the name of our Common Moorhen to Common Gallinule except perhaps they thought that we did not have moors in the USA.I still instinctively call them moorhens as it seems to fit them so much better.
ReplyDeleteI really do not know why they keep changing bird names! Lovely ird. I suffer jet lag and now my family and family have moved back to Australia, I am not looking forward to having it again! Thanks for hosting and have a good week. I have been away in Scotland at my sister's (so no commenting) and just about to go away again for 2 more weeks! But thanks for all your comments. Well life is short and I am making the most of it
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the Moorhen, very nice reflections!

ReplyDeleteThose are nice reflection shots. There is one where he really looks like he is seeing himself. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteCindy
The reflections are great! Rest up and recover.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos (as usual). Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteThey possess their own beauty...
ReplyDeleteHope you are back in shape soon!
I find going to South Africa no problem, same time as us, but flying to you I die for several days!!
ReplyDeleteLovely set of photos. Keep well, cheers Diane
Apparently jet lag is a tiny taste of what space travel does to the body. I had no idea it is devastating to the human body till hearing astronaut Chris Hadfield talk about it...he aged 10 years in space. Hope you are back on track now, Stewart! Meanwhile, I'd only heard of moorhens in poems so very happy to look at your photos. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThese are quite similar to those I can see in Italy.
