Wild Bird Wednesday 366 - Laughing kookaburra

A very short WBW this week - still trying to catch up with last week, work and a sore (but thankfully healing) ankle and a few other life things.

This is that most Australian of birds the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae).  The pictures were taken when we were down at Wilsons Promontory a couple of week ago.

No matter how many times I see these birds, they always make me smile.

As ever, you can join in with WBW by clicking on the link below - and also as ever, please feel free to share the love for WBW with other bloggers!  Cheers. SM

Hello Stewart: Had I been doing the kind of walking you have recently undertaken, my whole body would be protesting, not just my ankle! As for the Laughing Kookaburra, who can fail to be charmed by such a creature. And along with the Sydney Opera House and the Koala it is one of the images people have of Australia. Oh, I almost forgot, also a unique Australian game called Prime Minister Musical Chairs. I understand that the rules for the latter are not especially complex, but it helps to be Australian to understand the subtleties of Aussie politics - or perhaps the lack thereof!

I would love to hear that bird. Its appearance reminds me of a kingfisher.

These are such cool birds. Would love the opportunity to see them in the wild, rather than just in zoos here in the US.
