My brother recently suggested that I put up a black and white image on Facebook each day for five days.
After a bit of thought I said 'Well, why not?'
These are the five images:
|
Self Portrait; Camberwell |
|
Grand Canyon, Arizona |
|
Past its best, Camberwell |
|
Federation Square, Melbourne |
|
Crested Tern, Mud Island |
These images are all reworkings of colour images, but its a fun project to look at images and find ones that 'work' in black and white.
Comments please!
I love colours, but I think these all work very well in b & w.
ReplyDeletelike that valley and the tern a lot.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that but you obviously made some good selections.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Grand Canyon photo and the tern! The self-portrait is rather ingenious!
ReplyDeleteI do prefer colors, but have to admit that these are terrific in B&W! Great selections indeed, Stewart!! Hope you have a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteYes I like doing this sometimes. For me the best one is the first one. Simple, great textures and fantastic point of dominance. I also like the tern one. I feel the landscape has not got much definition . The car works well and I love the way the front looked stretched. Not keen on the fourth one. Now this is only my opinion, I do not expect you to agree. Have a great week and keep experimenting. I love people who do that.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we see things in B & W that we never noticed in color because we are blinded by the color. Absolutely love the self-portrait and the Grand Canyon.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I've found I have to pay extra attention to contrast for black and white.
ReplyDeleteWonderful set of images!

These are great. I have always liked black and white. It brings the photo down to the bare bones.
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful and fascinating that they are so good in B&W. The only one that I would have thought would be a good candidate for that is the car. But everyone of them is great .
ReplyDeleteI liked your sons pelican joke. I have taught all my grand kids the pelican poem joke poem... Not sure my daughter in laws loved it. Daughter expected it! I'm sure you know the one I mean, but if you don't I will be happy to send it to your son.
Nice images all of them! It's fun to convert photos to B & W. Sometimes I like the non-color version much better.
ReplyDeleteI've been asked to join in the B&W Challenge both on Facebook and on Instagram. So far I haven't had the motivation to do so. I'm a huge lover of colour images but there are times that B&W really works! Well done Stewart!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I love the self-portrait and the car especially!
