Wild Bird Wednesday 79 - Superb Fairy Wren

Greetings one and all - lead is melting in the garden and steam is coming from my ears and the back of the computer - local temps got to almost 112!  That too hot to even think.

So, here are some images that were taken on a much cooler day.

This is a male Superb Fairy-Wren.  I was surprised when this bird popped up on to the top of a reed stem and stayed there for a while.

I'm not sure if I like the reeds that cut across some of the images - but I do think they give the whole picture a depth.  Also, I think it makes the bird look a little more hidden and secretive.

Thats all from me - its too hot!

    Love this little bird.....like a cross between gnatcatcher, warbler, chickadee and hummingbird:) Look forward to the day when I get to observe one in the wild:)

    What a beautiful little bird. A Fairy Wren you say? I want one. I have a Fairy collection (Something I used to do) and that little birdie is so sweet.

    These are keepers, Stewart. I can't ever be glib about these pictures ... beautiful bird, but it is the background, the reeds and the bird all together that make it so perfect. I do love this one.

    112 degrees? I hope you have your head stuck in the refrigerater ... I think I would explode. I have lots of ice and snow I could send you and would love to include the subzero temperature but the post office isn't cooperating. So sorry, Stewart. I can't even imagine ... how's the humidity?

    Hi Stewart, take care and survive the heat! The photos of the little Fairy-Wren are great. I find that all the Fairy-Wrens have a habit of staying in behind some sort of vegetation - lots of glimpses of them possible but few chances of clear photos, unfortunately.

    Beautiful photos, especially the last one. I think they are the best posers of the Fairy-wrens (Variegated Fairy-wren sticks to deep cover at all times!) but this one seems particularly obliging!

    Crazy temps you are enduring - I heard that the Melb temperature ROSE in the early hours of the morning, from 30C to 36C or something like that!

    I have never seen a wren with a long tail. Lovely photos! It was 48 degrees here in Northern Nevada today. Our summer temps can reach into the 100's, so I know how you feel with it being 112! Find a shady spot and stay cool!

    Too hot to breathe!
    Your wrens are so much more colorful that the wrens here in the USA, but they sport the same perky tail up positions.
    Hope you get some relief from the heat soon.

    Yes it is most definitely too hot to think at 112 degrees. Heck, I stop thinking at 101 :)

    What a sweet little bird! Love the pose. There was a small goldfinch in Oregon that posed similarly for me and I did not crop in because I thought it was too cute.

    We've been watching some of the Australian Open and the players look absolutely miserable. Bless your heart with heat like that. Ugh! Ours will come soon enough.
